About Rightkey
Why Rightkey?
Rightkey was born out of a simple personal need: tracking piano practice in a way that actually makes sense for musicians.
As a pianist myself, I found that existing apps either overcomplicated things with gamification gimmicks, or simply weren't designed with the way musicians actually practice. I wanted something that focused on what matters—the pieces you're working on, the time you invest, and the progress you make.
Practicing an instrument can sometimes feel like a solitary journey. Rightkey aims to change that by connecting musicians and letting you see what others are practicing. There's something motivating about knowing you're not alone in the practice room.
What Makes Rightkey Different
Piece-Focused Approach
Unlike generic time trackers, Rightkey is built around your repertoire. Every practice session is connected to specific pieces, giving you meaningful insights into where your time goes and how your pieces evolve.
Your Data, Your Privacy
Your practice data belongs to you. We don't sell it, analyze it for advertising, or share it with third parties. Rightkey is a tool for musicians, not a data harvesting operation.
Built by a Musician
Rightkey is developed by someone who actually uses it. Every feature comes from real practice sessions and real needs, not a product roadmap designed by committee.
Always Improving
User feedback drives development. If something doesn't work for you, that's a bug to fix, not a feature to ignore.
The Vision
Rightkey is free to use for core functionality, and will remain so. In the future, optional premium features may be added for those who want them, but the fundamental practice tracking experience will always be accessible to everyone.
The longer-term goal is to build a community of practicing musicians—a place where you can discover new repertoire through what others are working on, find motivation in shared practice goals, and feel part of something larger than your individual practice sessions.
About the Creator
Rightkey is created and maintained by Matos, a pianist and software developer based in Germany. When not at the keyboard (either kind), you can find Matos thinking about how technology can better serve musicians without getting in the way of the music itself.
